Ymit

Ymit - a visual novel tells the story of a family trying to survive famine and colonisation. The story is based on my family's history, Mukhamet Shayakhmetov's memoir Silent Steppe and Smagul Yelubaev's trilogy Lonely Yurt.

In this demo, the player witnesses the story of a Kazakh family struggling to survive the famine of the 1930s caused by the political colonial tactics of the Soviet Union.
Based on real events, the game brings together many human experiences that are told through the lives of fictional characters. Explore tragic and resilient moments, experience firsthand the effects of colonization and the power of the human spirit. 

Үміт or Ümit is the name of the character through whose eyes the story is told and so is hope.
